If you Invested $100 into Automotive Stocks BEFORE COVID What Would They Be Worth Now?

The answer to this question has been on my mind ever since writing the Tesla Cybertruck article a few days ago. Naturally, I decided to do some market research utilizing NASDAQ’s data to put together the chart below. I realize that this list is not all inclusive but it gives you a general idea.

In order to put together this chart, I took data from August of 2019 and compared it to data in August of 2022. Comment down below what you wish you would have invested in if you had the chance!

Blow-Off Valve on a Jet ski?

Waverunner, Jet ski, personal watercraft or whatever you want to call it! At Car-Nut we were bored one day and decided to put a HKS Blow-Off Valve on our Sea-Doo. Check out the results in a quick video we shot some time ago:

Will Monkeypox Delay Tesla Cybertruck Deliveries? What if you Invested The $100 Deposit into Tesla Stock Instead in 2019?

Did you forget that back in 2019 you made a $100 deposit to Tesla for your Cybertruck? Were you promised delivery in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 but now hear that you may not get it until 2027? Join the club!

We blamed the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in 2020 for delaying production of the futuristic Cybertruck we all dreamed of. In 2021 on-going cases of COVID-19 and Tesla’s move from California to the Texas Gigafactory were the reasons for further delay. In 2022, rising cases of Monkeypox are further threatening society and uncertainty about the future is on the rise. Australia cancelled and refunded the $100 deposit on Tesla Cybertruck orders recently and nobody is getting updates on their orders. In fact, some customers are reporting that their original e-mail and messages on the Tesla App have disappeared. But, maybe that’s just user error..

Another “fun” thing to consider is what if you took that $100 and purchased TSLA stock instead of making a deposit on a Cybertruck for Tesla to utilize interest free?

Data collected directly from NASDAQ shown above provides us with the answer to our previous question. If on November of 2019 you would have taken $100 to purchase Tesla stock, you would have bought 1.4091255 shares of TSLA. Now, those same shares you purchased would be worth $1,218.20 today.

But, if you are like me then you gave Tesla a free $100 (and if you account for the ridiculous inflation we’re seeing) that same $100 if given back to you would have the purchasing power of about $116. So would you have been better off just investing in the stock? Not exactly.. let me explain.

Let’s say that Tesla begins producing the Cybertruck and you are lucky enough to be one of the first hundred thousand people to take delivery on one. Remember the dealership markups we are seeing on Ford, Toyota, Honda, GM, Kia, Hyundai and EVERY SINGLE OTHER AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURER IN EXISTANCE?! I am willing to bet that the markup on the highly anticipated Cybertruck (or re-sale value in this case) would be astronomical. Yes, I do realize that now we’re investing more than just the initial $100 since you have to take delivery and get finance approved in order to actually get one. However, let’s compare the Hummer EV. The MSRP on a Hummer was $110,295 and let’s pretend you were able to get one for MSRP. If you were to turn around and sell that Hummer, they are going for DOUBLE! I think the same would apply for a Cybertruck in today’s market. Meaning, your 2019 $100 + financing investment would potentially earn you $50,000+.

Just look at the image above! $234,995 vs. $110,295 MSRP listed on GM’s website.

Regardless, we continue to be patient and dream of the day we get to park our Cybertrucks in the driveway (because they won’t fit in our garage.) I’m curious to hear your thoughts, leave a message or send us an e-mail!

The BIGGEST BMW….EVER!

The all new BMW X7 is BMW’s biggest (literally) move to enter uncharted SUV territory. We all know BMW for its performance, looks, and luxury. They have the X-lineup currently made up of the X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, and X6. Honestly, consumers are losing track of the model numbers at this point..

Nonetheless, BMW has released the X7. I know I am not the first to tell you, and until you see it you may not believe it, but this thing is literally a yacht. You can choose to spec your X7 with either the xdrive40i or xdrive50i trim.

BMW-MY19-X-Model-X7-Gallery-Exterior-09

The 40i puts out 335 hp and does 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds, while the 50i puts out 456 hp and does 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds. The X7 seats 6-7 depending on if your choose captain’s chairs for your yacht. Additionally, you can choose to add massage seats if you really wanted to. In fact, there are too many options to list! You just have to go to BMW’s website and build your own.

Price: Starting at $73,900

Overall: The X7 is a tank! It seats up to 7 and does 0-60 in under 6 seconds while massaging your back and taking the whole soccer team to practice. This is an expensive vehicle, but you really do get a lot for your money that other automotive brands don’t offer at this time. The options are endless as long as you have the money. That being said, it is worth every penny.

Another Cool Kia?

In recent automotive news, Kia has announced a new vehicle to their lineup called the “Telluride” and it’s exciting! They are gearing up to compete with the Volkswagen Atlas, Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot. However, do we think the Kia brand is able to do that?

The times where Kia had poor build quality, questionable reliability, and very little popularity are over. Today, Kia is an extraordinary brand competing with highly recognized automotive companies, and honestly… kicking their butts. As we saw with the all new Kia Stinger, the brand has many tricks up their sleeves and we love that.

The 2020 Kia Telluride is a HUGE SUV with bold looks. The market in America has shifted towards big SUVs and foreign automakers have learned to adapt. However, Kia does classify this as a mid-size SUV so they claim not to be competing with a Suburban, but let me tell you it can!

cq5dam.thumbnail.439.292

Starting at $31,690 the Telluride comes with a 3.8 Liter V6 pushing 291 hp @ 6,000 rpm with 262 lb-ft of torque @ 5,200 rpm. This is paired to an electronically shifting 8-speed transmission.

Fuel (18.8 gal fuel tank): minimum regular unleaded 87 octane or higher

MPG estimates for the front-wheel drive model: 20 city / 26 highway

MPG estimates for the all-wheel drive model: 19 city / 24 highway

It is worth noting that with some additional equipment you have a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.

As far as interior is concerned, it is very BMW-ish. The dash truly does look like it is out of a BMW, or even a Mercedes. But again, that is a good thing, since you are getting a beautiful design for a great price.

The best part? It comes with Kia’s crazy warranty: 10 years/100,000 miles

Our verdict: You are getting a lot of car for your money with the all new 2020 Kia Telluride. The warranty alone is enough to pull you in, but the overall looks of the vehicle really push you over the edge. The Telluride is bold, big, and well.. really cool! Of course, the more options you add the more expensive this thing gets and you could buy a decently optioned BMW or Mercedes at that point. But you won’t be able to seat 7-8 people, have a massive amount of storage, or come close to the industry-leading warranty that Kia offers.

The 2020 Toyota Supra is OFFICIALLY Here!

Ladies and gentlemen, the day has come. We have been waiting for years for the next Toyota Supra to be revealed to the world, and today it finally was!

There will be 1,500 launch edition models with “special” features such as red interior option and red mirrors for $56,000. Otherwise, it starts at $50,000 for the base model and $53,000 for the premium.

It shares the same platform as the BMW Z4, which will put out 355 horsepower with 365 ft-lbs of torque paired with an 8 speed automatic gearbox. The Z4, however, puts out about 30 horsepower more than the Supra, so I am certain that a tune will bump that number up very quickly for the Supra. The Supra weighs right around 3,300 pounds and does 0-60 in just 4.1 seconds.

The interior is beautiful, and very BMW-like. However, I must admit that I am disappointed they did not keep the “fighter jet cockpit” appearance that we see in the MKIV Supra.

So, what do you think?

Personally, I think it has potential and once people start to modify them, they will truly look fantastic.

Happy Memorial Day! Check this out.

Many of you know “Tavarish” on Youtube and his latest project car. But for those who don’t, let us bring you up to speed. Tavarish bought a twin turbo Lamborghini Gallardo that had previous fire damage (the cheapest Lamborghini in the country). He has made awesome progress, and if you’re interested, check out his channel!

Toyota Supra [CONFIRMED] but will it top the MKIV??

A lot of you are familiar with the Geneva Motor Show hosted in the Swiss city of Geneva. It is an annual international auto show where new ideas are put forth in the spotlight and car manufacturers proudly display what they have been working on. This year, March 2018, Toyota announced that the “Supra” will officially be making a comeback!

However, it will not be a production car (yet) and was unveiled as the GR Supra Racing Concept. But, we really did not get more information about it. Will it be the traditional rear-wheel drive? Inline 6? Automatic or manual? The one thing we did learn is that rumors are true, it will be co-developed with BMW, which in our opinion is a great thing. BMW has really pushed the limits with their M powered cars and know what they are doing, where as Toyota has really taken over the market with their technology and reliability. If we had to speculate, we assume the new Supra will get the smooth inline six that BMW is known for in their cars too. As far as rear-wheel drive is concerned, Toyota confirmed that it will be at Geneva, saying that it will be like all the Supras before it.

Now.. onto some controversial news. The new Toyota Supra may not come as a manual, which we are sad to announce. At Geneva, Toyota did not deny or confirm this, but the way they made it seem was that there will not be a manual option. So, car-nuts.. brace yourself for the reality and prepare to have it be automatic only. (But pray that maybe they will listen to us and have a manual option)

The truth is when we think of Supra, the first thing that pops into our head is the MKIV Toyota Supra from Fast and the Furious. There are avid Supra enthusiasts who love them all, including the MKIII. But in reality, you can find a MKIII on craigslist for a few thousand dollars and you really won’t get anybody excited when you drive it around. When it comes to the MKIV, the prices are sky-high and we honestly do not see them coming down anytime soon. It is literally an icon, which cannot be substituted. The problem that we see Toyota facing, is that they might not be able to top the MKIV Supra. There is something nostalgic about seeing the MKIV supra. It brings you back to the early 2000’s and brings back important memories. Seeing the supra in theaters on the big screen, and remembering how everybody drove crazy after going back to their cars in the parking lot having finished the movie. Will the 2019 Supra be able to do that? We don’t think so.. It may be just like the NSX, where people knew about it for a long time, and when it was released it was just too expensive and not that exciting. Toyota really has to make this one special if they want to top the MKIV, and I am interested to see what will happen in the near future.

Only time will tell, but here is your update on what we know about the 2019 Supra. Let us know in the comments if you are excited to see what Toyota plans to bring to the table!
